Welcome to our Rabbit Project Website

Rabbit Sweep 2025-27
We have been exceptionally lucky and have a new two-year grant from Agriculture Victoria's Partnerships against Pests campaign. We will be working with land managers helping them and their neighbours control the invasive rabbits threatening the Bellarine. Why do we worry about controlling rabbits?
If you're not sure why we worry about controlling rabbits, perhaps you would like to watch a recent ABC video:
Many of us care for our environment and want to 'bring back the bandicoots'! This means we need to sweep away some unwelcome invaders ... we are learning how much better the environment would be if only we could swap bunnies for bandicoots.
We have been having fun collecting 'tips and tricks' from those who have learnt effective tricks they can share as tips for other rabbiters. Please feel free to send us good tips that might help others.
Now and then we help with field days - such as we had in 2025 checking out, among other things, best practice implosion of rabbit warrens (see below):

As can be seen, we are reaching for the stars - an ambitious lot!

Our first Rabbit Sweep Day was held on November 23, 2024.
Our second was held on May 10, 2025.
Another was held on October 25, 2025.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the lands where we live,
We are very grateful for the support we have received in the past from the Victorian Government, Victorian Landcare and the City of Greater Geelong:
