October NewsWelcome our life-saver Camila! Our best news is that with the assostance of Agriculture Victoria we have Camila to help us. Hello Landcare members! My name is Camila Castellanos, and a few weeks ago I joined the BLG’s Rabbit Sweep as a Partnership Against Pest (PAP) facilitator. I am compiling information on rabbit control methods suggested by various bodies and governmental organisations such as Agriculture Victoria, Pestsmart, VRAN etc. I would also like to include your perspective from your experience. Could you please send me a short list or paragraph describing your main focus. The page will be compiled and available at https://www.rabbit-sweep.org/strategies/priorities A Rabbit Sweep Day - November 23, 2024We have learnt a lot about rabbits in the last year. Now is the time for action. Our major concern, funnily enoughis having enough people working on rabbit control to make a real difference. This means having awareness of the problem and how to deal with it as well as willingness to take action. Our plan is to prepare for a major effort in early autumn 2025 and so to engage people now with what they will need to know. Have you participated in a 'gardens tour'? Well, we are planning a rabbit awareness tour. We have chosen 6 venues and we wouold like each of them to have an expert , or at least experienced person, at each event to answer questions and hlpe participants. We want to have available demonstrations of the various techniques so landholders and potential volunteers can learn what will be involved. We are hoping some of you will help us - we do need help but hopefully it will help you too. If you can spare time for us on the Saturday, please let us know. If wyou have a venue you would like included, please let us know. If you have ideas or comments, please let us know. Email us at We are keen to exemplify: spotlighting, using Rabbit Scan, baiting by hand, baiting with a baiter, using a bait station, smoking a warren, fumigating a warren, ripping a warren, imploding a warren, using ferrets and maintenance and surveillance of work. The Rabbit Sweep CatalogueUnfortunately, it has taken a lot longer than anticipated to build our catalogue. The aim is to make it easy to find relevant resources, wherever they are online, but also to enter them into the catalogue. Most important seems to be making it asy to record valuautions of the resources to guide people towards what will be useful to them. We hope to launch the catalogue before the end of the year! |
